What’s your revolution? 👊🏼 - - - “To think, last week at this exact time, I was complaining about not wanting to go to rehearsal after school and trying to think of an excuse to get out of it…To [NRA Florida lobbyist] Marion Hammer and to everyone at the NRA and everyone affiliated at the NRA: We are not afraid of you, we will not be silenced by anything you have to say. We are here, our voices are loud, and we’re not stopping until change happens.”- Tanzil Philip, Sophomore #AWAY#awaragainstyourself#counterculture#streetwear#streetfashion#streetstyle#nra#guns#guncontrol#revolution#stonemandouglas#florida#equality#change#movement

in the wake of the tragedy in parkland, I am so inspired by the survivors and what they are doing to save other children from the same dangers. we must fight from below because the people above will not save us. I am helping with my schools participation in the #nationalschoolwalkout on march 14 to stand in solidarity with the victims, spread awareness, demand gun control laws, and promote peace. I think it is so important that we ensure that schools are safe spaces by making sure that this happens #neveragain.

so in the recent controversy over whether or not teachers should be armed in their classrooms, I discussed this with my mom because she is an elementary school teacher. basically what she believes is that not only is arming teachers running the risk of creating more danger and panic, but this type of solution is much like placing a bandaid on a gaping wound. being a teacher who sees young children who are susceptible to dangerous behavior later in life, she wants an entire culture shift in which the school system is changed and no children are bullied or left out to the point of hurting others. more school psychologists are needed and counselors who are welcoming and not overrun with extraneous responsibilities, not more guns. other countries have managed to prevent mass shootings, but elected officials continue to turn a blind eye and fight fire with fire. I think that teachers who are with these children everyday know what is best in preventing potential dangers and they need to be listened to. I would love to know what others think of this so please let me know!
