First day in Montenegro and we explored the Bay of Kotor. The weather wasn’t great, but there are also almost zero tourists here.
While driving around the bay we stopped to photograph a small Orthodox church on an island in the bay called Our Lady of the Rocks.
This week, I’m taking over the Instagram account over at @allianztravelus. I’ll be sharing photo from my travel experiences which took my out of my comfort zone. This includes everything from bungee jumping, to photographing political protests, visiting active conflict zones, and encountering wild animals. Go and check it out as many of these photos have never appeared on my Instagram feed before.
Tomorrow I’m off on my first international trip of the year. I’ll be traveling o the small and beautiful country of Montenegro! I’ve been to Montenegro twice before, but both times were very short trips. This time I’ll be able to explore more thoroughly and take lots more photos.
Denali isn’t just the tallest peak in North America, it is the largest mountain in the world in terms of the height as measured from base to summit. Everest and many other mountains have a higher peak, but they are all located on very high plateaus.
In his book, "The Finest Peaks: Prominence and Other Mountain Measures" Adam Helman wrote, "The base to peak rise of Mount McKinley is the largest of any mountain that lies entirely above sea level." The only other mountain with a larger base to peak difference would be Mauna Kea in Hawaii, which has a base below sea level.
Another fun fact: the odds of reaching the summit for people who try to climb it (50%) is greater than the odds of seeing the summit for people who visit the park (30%)! #EverythingEverywhere#alaska#alaskanps#denali#denalinationalpark#nps#nationalpark#mountains
A suspension bring in the mists of Yakushima Island, Japan.
Yakushima is a place where you will find few foreign visitors. Located an hour ferry ride south of Kagoshima, which is the southern most city in Japan’s four major islands, it is a place which has a special place in Japanese culture.
The top of the island is old growth cedar forests which are often covered in clouds. The island was the inspiration for the 1997 animated film Princess Mononoke by Hayao Miyazaki. It is also declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993.
