ANAGEN(active growth):hair is actively growing half an inch every 28days, .3 to .4 millimeter everyday. 80 to 90% of your hair is currently in the anagen growing phase, scalp hair stays in this phase for 2-6years, the amount of time that a hair follicle stays in the anagen phase is genetically determined. Some people naturally have longer anagen phases and can grow their hair very long while others will never see their hair get much longer than a foot. At the end of the anagen phase,an unknown signal causes the follicle to go to the catagen phase.
CATAGEN (transitionary stage):when the hair bulb slowly starts to pull away from blood supply while a club hair is formed. This lasts for 2-3weeks.
TELOGEN (resting phase): after the short catagen phase, the hair follicle rests for 3months,the club hair falls out, typically you lose about 50-100strands a day, after 3 months the follicle goes back to anagen phase again and begins to grow new hair. ** exogen phase is the final stage when the hair detaches and falls.
** it is important to note that all hairs do not go through these stages at the same time, the reason that you do not temporarily go bald is that, at any given moment, some hairs are in the anagen, some are in the catagen and some are in the telogen. ** club hair; hair that has stopped actively growing from its base, has formed a hard root knob and will shed within a few months..
