An inspiring evening of film, performance & discussion at the Black Women's Voices event at @womenslibrary last night. Really interesting points about the legacy of colonialism and how patriarchal historical rhetoric enforces racism.
I'm thinking a lot about my own responsibility with these issues and how being aware of systemic racism and not trying to tell a different story or take action means you are essentially complicit with the problem. Quick visit to Goldsmiths University to finalise arrangements for the conference/festival on diversity in Poetry with lovely poet Maura Dooley. My main cause of panic at the moment is ensuring the tech issues-showing of amazing series of poetry films- runs smoothly. Will be hiring an expert :) Rather nice exhibition by Bella Milroy in the Kingsway space where Portrait of a Poet (portraits by @caleb.femi and @naomi_woddis) will be up from November 8th to 11th. Readings/presentations from Bernardine Evaristo, Jacob Sam-La Rose and the Barbican Young Poets, Sarah Howe, Mona Arshi looking, Clare Pollard, Kayo Chingonyi and many others. Full programme up at www.thecompleteworkspoetry.com. FREE but booking required. #poetryconference#poetryfestival#diversity#diversityinpoetry#portraitsofpoets#exhibition#Goldsmithsuniversity#technophobe#organising#lifeofaproducer
