I admire the immense #strength and #courage of all of the people coming forth in the last few days to speak honestly about the pervasive horrors of sexual abuse. No person should ever experience such mistreatment but as it is sadly evident, so many do. Sharing your stories gives precedent to a better path forward for all of us. Peeling back the layers of shame, guilt, and pain is no easy feat and the discomfort it brings will surely lead to something which we so desperately need. Thank you. *

All Nobel Peace Prize winners are special in their own way, but all the women laureates I've met have moved me in ways I can't quite explain. They have love and compassion that touch people, especially youth, in a powerful way. One of the most loving is Betty Williams, who was a mom in Northern Ireland during The Troubles- when Protestants and Catholics were murdering each other senselessly. One day she saw a young child gunned down in the street and it was billed as "collateral damage". She got so enraged she started organizing women to stand up against the violence and before she knew it 10,000 women were in the streets demanding peace and an unstoppable movement began. A year later in 1976 she won the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts. The world is a better place because of women- especially those with courage and compassion like Betty. #internationalwomensday

Day 224:
Katherine Johnson (1918- ) is an African-American mathematician who made contributions to the United States' aeronautics and space programs with the early application of digital electronic computers at NASA. Known for accuracy in computerized celestial navigation, she conducted technical work at NASA that spanned decades. During this time, she calculated the trajectories, launch windows, and emergency back-up return paths for many flights from Project Mercury, including the early NASA missions of John Glenn and Alan Shepard, and the 1969 Apollo 11 flight to the Moon, through the Space Shuttle program. Her calculations were critical to the success of these missions. Johnson also performed calculations for the plans for a mission to Mars. In 2015, Johnson received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. #365women #womenwhochangedtheworld #women #womenofhistory #internationalwomensday #caricature #caricatura #caricatureart #caricatures #caricatureartist #art #artist #drawing #sketching #instaart #instaartist #instadraw #instasketch #artistsofinstagram #love #instagood #tbt #photooftheday #instafollow #l4l #followback #inktober
I think it's shocking how many people know someone whose been harrassed but so few know the culprits. The people who do this need to change ✨
I've experienced harrassment myself and I can say it's no joke. Even when I was in school at the age of 14 I had men drive past in a van and say disgusting things - all the while I was in my uniform so I was quite obviously underage. Since that point I've come to expect harrassment to a certain degree and am not surprised when it happens, unfortunately ✨
Even in my place of work, it's a common occurence. I work part time behind a bar, and the persistence of some men is nauseating. If I say no, it means no. If I say no to giving you my number, it means no. If I say no to spending the night with you, it means no. Half of these men were twice my age, married and with children - it is utterly disturbing ✨
I don't know if this kind of behaviour will ever cease fully, but it needs to decline now and fast. I'm sick of being made to feel uncomfortable and intimidated. It's so easy to day "just tell them to shut up" but as it happens you can't help but shy away, unsure of how far they would take things. I shouldn't be made to feel this way, and nor should anyone - male or female. .
