What a fabulous read. Highly recommended. Reasonably scary in parts, I’d be cautious re child readers. Counting down to Book II already! Book 60 for 2017 #phillippullman #bookofdust #bookofdustvolumeone #labellesauvage #bookgirl #bookworm #booknerd #summerreading2017
“Radio Silence” is the story of Frances. Everyone knows her as the high-achieving, clever academic girl, but,in secret, she spends all her time obsessing about a YouTube podcast called Universe City. Just as she is gearing up to apply for university, she finds out that the creator of Universe City lives across the road. When they meet and become friends, she starts questioning everything she thought she knew about herself and her future. Alice Oseman won the silver #inkyaward for “Radio Silence”. #gameon2017 #inkyawards2017 #studybreak #readersofinstagram #summerreading2017 #summerreading
A lovely read, reminding me why I have always needed at least one animal in my life. Much of this content must have been common knowledge to many before intensive farming. Thanks @marsdenbooks for a great recommendation. Book 59 for 2017 #thesecretlifeofcows #rosamundyoung #kitesnestfarm #booknerd #bookworm #farmgirlatheart #summerreading2017 #readinggirl

Imagine being a kid and getting to camp inside a public library, watch scary movies, and make s'mores. Well that's what two of our Summer Reading Program winners did on Saturday night! #SVLibrary hosted a "Halloween Campout" for the winners and their families. They enjoyed having the entire library to themselves to read, watch scary movies (with pizza) on the big screen, and make s'mores on the library patio! Fun was had by all! To win this prize next year, be sure to participate in our Summer Reading Program.

I was excited to join students and teachers from Greenville (SC) County Schools recently as they marked the end of their Summer Reading Camp 2017 with a visit to Biltmore. As part of the program, over 300 students received a copy of Serafina and the Black Cloak through a grant arranged by the county. Here's a photo of some of the kids, the teachers, and myself on the slope of "Diana Hill" at Biltmore Estate.

Young readers (8-14) and adults of all ages are loving this exciting new book series about a brave and unusual girl who prowls the grand Biltmore Estate amidst the splendor of the Gilded Age and the rugged beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Published by Disney Hyperion and written by award-winning author Robert Beatty, these mystery-thrillers are #1 New York Times Best Sellers and are already being taught in over a thousand classrooms nationwide. Book 1 in the series won the prestigious 2016 Pat Conroy Southern Book Prize for "representing the best in Southern literature." Kirkus Reviews awarded the second book a Starred Review, saying, "Even better than its predecessor, a sequel that delivers nonstop thrills from beginning to end." Shop Now on Amazon:

Happy first day of autumn! These are the best books I've read during the summer. Beartown is still my favorite of the year. Definitely a must-read!
First day of Fall today, so here's all my summer reading (not counting any of my assigned class readings and digital stuff). On the left are all the books I read cover to cover, those on the right, not so much - not saying I won't finish them, but Anna Karenina is fairly heavy and I'm determined to keep up with economics and the economics texts are for reference so as to not let my political economics class get the better of me. Biographies kind of became a bit of a theme, getting even the smallest glimpse into someone else's life and gaining an understanding of their world view is something I find very intriguing. Also, looking forward to exploring more graphic novels after an inspiring panel I went to at FanExpo a couple of weeks ago. #summerreading #summerreading2017 #biography #graphicnovel #usedbooks

Time sure went by quickly since June 26, when parents and children were signing up for the LPL's Summer Reading program.
Our staff has compiled the 2017 numbers, handed over by Clerk Shelly Anderson:
The children logged 8,754 books and 15,026 pages.
Nice season, all.
