The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, tells the story of Jay Gatsby through the voice of his friend Nick Carraway. Nick, a young man who’d just moved to New York, rents a house in West Egg, a section of Long Island. Adjoining his house is the sumptuous mansion owned by a mysterious neighbour, the wealthy Jay Gatsby. One afternoon, Nick is invited to his cousin Daisy Buchanan’s, estate for dinner with her husband, Tom, and a friend, Jordan Baker. Soon after, as the summer develops, Nick is finally invited to Gatsby’s mansion for a party. There he eventually meets Gatsby and learns his true motives. After Gatsby's party Nick is asked by Gatsby to arrange a meeting with his cousin, Daisy, who was once his true love and has been desperate to rekindle that love.
Thematic Question: Is wealth more important than friendships/relationships?
School is back in session which means the Summer Reading program is officially over! But you can still check out our impressive structure the kids created this summer. Each brick represents 10 minutes read! Thanks to Children's Librarian Rachel Fecho (pictured) for making this summer's program so much fun! #williamjeaneslibrary#wjml#summerreading2017#beforeandafter
