I get a lot of questions on here about my Renaissance gown. I thought I’d share the top 3 dresses I used as inspiration when designing my dress!
✨1. Juliet’s red dress from the 2013 R&J adaption: Juliet is probably my favorite fictional character so my first thought when I decided I wanted to do a Renaissance dress was red. I first looked at Juliet’s dress from Zaffereli’s film, but fell in love with the costume designs from Carlo Poggioli. I wanted to do similar puff shoulders and the style of sleeves.
✨2. Queen Elizabeth from Reign: I took the gold accents I loved on this one and used the idea of adding trim around the cuts where you can see the gold fabric lining the inside of the arms. ✨3. Katherine Howard from Tudors: I love everything about this one. I’m crazy about the sparkles. (I’m constantly adding beads and I don’t think I’ll stop.) I kept the same neckline and took ideas from her “bling”. If I could add the stomacher I would, but to keep with the time period of Mary Tudor I was unable to do that. I’m hoping my neckline looks as good as hers by next year.
