"As Margaret Heffernen, author of Willful Blindness, puts it, “We could know, and should know, but don’t know because it makes us feel better not to know.” (Got it? Good.) It’s the same reason why die hard political fans are often unable to see the failure of their own candidate, and why religious conversion topics are so uncomfortable. Our brains believe what they have become accustomed to believing, and anything that tries to change that feels like a lie." - Eden Strong #DVAM

Most U.S. households have pets, and pets are often considered part of the family. Recognizing the bonds between victims and their pets, many batterers threaten, harm, and even kill pets in the home in order to control, intimidate, and retaliate against their victims. (Ahimsa House)
. @ahimsahouse is one of the many organizations in the U.S. who assist women fleeing with their pets from an abusive and violent relationship. . @redroverorg Domestic Violence Safe Escape Grants help families and pets affected by domestic violence by providing grants for safe housing and veterinary care. The goal of the program is to enable victims to leave their batterers without having to leave their pets behind. Grants may be provided for temporary boarding and veterinary care.
