“Radio Silence” is the story of Frances. Everyone knows her as the high-achieving, clever academic girl, but,in secret, she spends all her time obsessing about a YouTube podcast called Universe City. Just as she is gearing up to apply for university, she finds out that the creator of Universe City lives across the road. When they meet and become friends, she starts questioning everything she thought she knew about herself and her future. Alice Oseman won the silver #inkyaward for “Radio Silence”. #gameon2017#inkyawards2017#studybreak#readersofinstagram#summerreading2017#summerreading
Imagine being a kid and getting to camp inside a public library, watch scary movies, and make s'mores. Well that's what two of our Summer Reading Program winners did on Saturday night! #SVLibrary hosted a "Halloween Campout" for the winners and their families. They enjoyed having the entire library to themselves to read, watch scary movies (with pizza) on the big screen, and make s'mores on the library patio! Fun was had by all! To win this prize next year, be sure to participate in our Summer Reading Program.
I was excited to join students and teachers from Greenville (SC) County Schools recently as they marked the end of their Summer Reading Camp 2017 with a visit to Biltmore. As part of the program, over 300 students received a copy of Serafina and the Black Cloak through a grant arranged by the county. Here's a photo of some of the kids, the teachers, and myself on the slope of "Diana Hill" at Biltmore Estate.

First day of Fall today, so here's all my summer reading (not counting any of my assigned class readings and digital stuff). On the left are all the books I read cover to cover, those on the right, not so much - not saying I won't finish them, but Anna Karenina is fairly heavy and I'm determined to keep up with economics and the economics texts are for reference so as to not let my political economics class get the better of me. Biographies kind of became a bit of a theme, getting even the smallest glimpse into someone else's life and gaining an understanding of their world view is something I find very intriguing. Also, looking forward to exploring more graphic novels after an inspiring panel I went to at FanExpo a couple of weeks ago. #summerreading#summerreading2017#biography#graphicnovel#usedbooks
