Prepping for the school year. Here in my district, we don't send home supply lists. We don't ask the parents to provide anything, except their child to the school each and every day. We provide free breakfast to every student who is in attendance and many of my students receive free or reduced lunch. We provide food packs for the weekends and our community so generously provides new shoes each year to every student who qualifies for the free and reduced lunch program. We strive to reach the unreachable and we try to make the school a warm, safe, and inviting place where the kids want to be. I hope in my years of teaching here I can be a bright light in some of their darkness. I hope that they understand the impact they can have by following through the district and reaching the point where they can someday receive grant money for free college tuition. Our district has many flaws, one major flaw we're trying to fight right now, but at the end of the day I'm proud of what I do. I'm proud to be a member of this district and I can't wait to meet my new little kindergarteners in a few weeks. ❤️ #teacherlife
"Around here, it's the hardest time of year.
Waking up, the days are even gone.
The collar of my coat
Lord help me, cannot help the cold
The raindrops sting my eyes
I keep them closed
But I'm feelin' no pain
I'm a little lonely and my quietest friend
Have I the moonlight? Have I let you in?
Say it ain't so, say I'm happy again
Say it's over, say I'm dreaming
Say I'm better than you left me
Say you're sorry, I can take it
Say you'll wait, say you won't
Say you love me, say you don't
I can make my own mistakes
Let it bend before it breaks
I'm alright. Don't I always seem to be?
Aren't I swinging on the stars?
Don't I wear them on my sleeve?
When you're looking for a crossroads
It happens every day
And whichever way you turn
I'm gonna turn the other way." - @brandicarlile
My new weekend tradition. An hour alone at a coffee shop with a book and a cup of coffee. Sometimes I crave alone time. I work all week with young kids who need me. I'm a teacher. Everyday I need to be present, have my brain on, and provide these kids with unconditional love and support, which I try my very hardest to do. I also work a second job for the time being. I'm constantly on the go, in fact I have to work at my second job in an hour. My goal for the year is to find a little bit of time each week for myself. Coffee + a good book seems like the perfect solution! Happy weekend friends and don't forget me time in whatever form is good for the soul! ❤️
It's official, I'm going to start planning and gathering auction items for Ivan. I feel the urge to help in any way I can. I have ran one successful auction in the past and have been a small part in other auctions ran a friend of mine. I will be setting up the account later and looking for donations now through Feb. 3rd. If you have anything you'd be willing to donate, please feel free to message me. Ivan is 12 months old and was recently diagnosed with Neuroblastoma. His mom was one of my best friends in high school and we remain good friends. He has a long journey ahead of him and I would love to make a small impact on the financial burden that cancer causes a family. #ivanthemighty
I only made 54 posts on here in 2016. It's been a year full of finishing my higher education. Hiding from the constant election coverage. And in general trying to enjoy moments fully without always capturing them. In 2017, I plan to live in my favorite city with two of my favorite people. You can expect a lot more city scape and skylines in the year to come. Happy holidays to you all. I hope 2017 turns out to be a great new year. ❤️
